Hey, I’m Alex Rivers — welcome to Resin Affairs!
If you’ve just unboxed your first resin kit and you’re staring at Part A and Part B thinking, “am I about to ruin this?” — you’re in exactly the right place.
Before I ever poured a coaster on my kitchen counter, I worked hands-on with composite materials — fiberglass, resins, and hardeners — in an industrial setting. That’s where I first learned what resins can really do — and just how important it is to respect them.
These days, I’m no longer working with resins for a living (It’s now a hobby), I’m in a much smaller workshop, combining resin and wood to create one-of-a-kind pieces. River boards, serving trays, coasters that look like art.
I started Resin Affairs because I remembered how confusing it was to switch from industrial composites to craft epoxy. I wanted to build the site I wish I had: plain-English answers first, jargon only when it earns its place, and safety advice that’s properly sourced.
My Workshop
I work out of a double garage. It isn’t a studio, and some days it’s a mess: offcuts on the bench, the shop vac hose wherever I left it, mica powder on the paper. I’d rather spend my time on projects than on building pretty shop furniture, so what you see in my photos is how it really looks.
I don’t buy the most expensive tools either. I buy the cheap one first, and if I use it enough to break it, then I buy the good one. That’s how I test things for this site too. If a budget kit or tool does the job, I’ll tell you. If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you that, and what I’d spend more on instead.
The one place I don’t scrimp is safety. Gloves, eye protection, a respirator, ear protection and fume extraction are non-negotiable in my shop, and I’d rather you went without a fancy tool than without those.
From Industrial Composites to Hobby Bench
